The Academisch Centrum Refractiechirurgie operates under the responsibility of Oogheelkunde Maastricht. Here we treat patients who require highly specialised care and for whom a referral is no longer possible. For patients who need this care, there is often no standard treatment available. Based on the most up-to-date knowledge and expertise, we look for a tailor-made solution for the individual patient.
As an ophthalmologist, optician or healthcare provider, you can refer patients to the ACRC in Maastricht for further advice and treatment. Consultation by mail is also possible to determine whether a physical appointment with us is necessary. We keep our waiting times short so we can help you and your patient as soon as possible.
If it is an emergency, it is best to reach us at +31(0)6 22 52 13 98 (strictly for medical providers). We will then soon put you in touch with our refractive surgery specialists.
Normally, after completing the course and treatment with us, you will receive a summary conclusion letter and we will refer the patient back to you. Please let us know if you require additional information during the process.
It is important that you mention the following points to the patient:
A preliminary examination is to be paid by themselves and costs € 100 (unless on medical grounds).
Discontinuation of contact lenses: at least 2 weeks for soft contact lenses and at least 4 weeks for hard contact lenses.
Would you like to refer a patient to our clinic? Make a referral with all relevant information.
You do not need to make a referral as it is private care. Your patient can contact us directly at refractiechirurgie@mumc.nl.
If contact lens intolerance is an issue, you may complete the attached form for a chance of treatment compensation. The patient can then take this with them to their preliminary examination. You may also mail it yourself to refractiechirurgie@mumc.nl.
If the patient is presbyopic, we always test monovision as a treatment option. This is something you can also test the patient yourself through a contact lens trial so that we already have a more detailed picture of the options at the initial consultation.
If you refer for re-treatment after a previous laser treatment, it is important to assess when it’s the right time. For surface treatments (PRK, LASEK), at least 6 months should be observed to obtain stable measurements. For depth treatments (LASIK, SMILE), at least 3 months should be observed. In case of emergency or other medical indications, you can of course refer sooner.
For consultations, please contact us directly at refractiechirurgie@mumc.nl.
