ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens)

About this treatment

An ICL is recommended when laser treatment is not possible, such as in cases of too thin corneas or dry eyes. An additional artificial lens is then implanted in the eye. You can simply imagine it as a soft contact lens being placed in front of the natural lens, behind the iris. The lens is not visible to the naked eye. Because the lens is very flexible, it can be inserted through a small opening of 2.8mm, allowing for a smooth recovery. Rejection is not possible since the ICL consists of material that naturally occurs in the  body. Additionally, the lens contains a UV filter that provides extra protection against sunlight.
